Driffield Triathlon Success
It was a resounding success for Ripon’s NYP TriStars at the Driffield triathlon on Sunday 18th May. A show of strength was almost inevitable, with 40 children from the club entering the race, and the podium results reflected this.
In the Tristarts category (8yr olds), Jake Phythian-Lee came first in the boys race, while Freya Ward came 2nd and Fern Osman came 3rd in the girls event.
In Tristar 1 category (9-10) Zak Atkinson came 1st, and in Tristar 2 (11-12) category, NYP TriStars took five of the six podium places, with 3rd places for Layla Osman and Evan Ward, 2nd places for Millie Locke and Will Grove, and first place for Kieran Bagot.
In the Tristar 3 category (13-14), Charlotte Haslam came first, and Phoebe Greensit , competing at the same distance as the adults, won the Youth (15-16) category.
For many of the children, it was their first competition of the season, and for many, the first time competing at a new distance. With over 60 members of the club now training twice a week, either at Ripon Grammar school pool, or at Ripon Race course, it looks set to be another stellar season for the club, which is also hosting its first competitive children’s triathlon on Sunday 13th July, the day after the adult Tri.
